every new year brings around a desire to organize and simplify here on the prairie...
this year i.m adding a stripped down rawness to the mix...
and if you are {lucky} enough to live in a century old farmhouse...{i.m using the term lucky very loosely right now...the freezing drafts coming through my walls make for a long winter....}
you know that one thing they lack is storage areas...
sigh...
i thought i would share some little bits that have helped reduce our clutter and organize our little home...
an old farm gate becomes a catch all for cowboy vests, coats, sweaters and spurs...
right now i.m going through and making donation piles, so i thought i better hurry and snap a picture before the gate gets over taken once again... :0)
the industrial, metal bin holds library and bookmobile books...we are forever misplacing these and this little bin has become a life saver for this family...
an old bushel basket holds extra pillows and blankets for when we need to snuggle down...
a vintage, copper-topped bread tin holds recipes and such...well, okay it is pretty much my junk drawer...out of sight out of mind right?!? ;0)
so what little bits are helping organize your {prairie} home?

I love your bins and gate, what a clever way to store things and they look beautiful! I am all about de-cluttering this year and it feels really good so far. I need to find some cute things like you have to store little things in. I love hunting for treasures like that! :)
Stay warm!
Your bins and repurposed pieces look great!:) I love using wire baskets and large antique ironstone for storing misc. things. Hope you are having a wonderful start to a new year!Hugs,Rachel

Gorgeous storage. I love to use old crates to store books and so forth. Of course, baskets and beautiful green jars are also great.

I love the ideas Kristin and I have a couple of OLD windows I have doggedly hung onto and maybe this year I will mount them on the wall and use them the way you used the gate! I think it would be a perfect use for them, thanks for the great idea!

Love your buckets and bins! And that's exactly where I put my "junk"...out of sight and out of mind:) It's a new year, though, and like you & others I'm feeling the need to "de-clutter"!
LOVE your storage spaces. When do you want to come to Iowa and help me organize my life....especially my craft room....with all of your creative ideas? I just might have to copy the old gate idea. LOVE it!!

I too love your storage solutions. I have misc. tins and boxes that I use to store all the miscellaneous stuff that can accumulate. Like pens and pencils, appt. cards, notes to self, battery chargers, etc.

Cute! I am the queen of stacking and piling...I do have a "boat" as my hubby calls it, a big wooden/iron catch all for a variety of items.
HI Kristin!
The Midwest pillow looks perfect in your home! I love all these storage ideas.
Happy New Year!

Baskets, bins, and buckets are used here at Heaven's Walk, Kristin! :) love that apple basket! I know exactly what you mean about drafting old farmhouses. Brrrr! I've got rolled up towels on alot of window sills. But we're lucky that we have a huuuuge cathedral ceiling attic and a big basement for storing all of my goodies. Whew! :)

Beautiful! I love how you've made each useful item "you".
OH I love your ideas Kristin! I have an antique bucket that hold my doggie toys. It's a great brown/black color, perfect to hide a bit of dog drool!

Dear Kristin,
All the best for 2011!
I will come back to read all the posts I've missed.
