planking...

so sorry dear readers...
the new interface on blogger is giving me a complete ache in the you know where! :0)
i've finally switched back to the old to bring you planking....
the good kind...on walls, and its usually white and i'm thinking this is definitely going to be my next project!
{i love the raw, natural beauty of these planks}
{oh.my. that's it. i'm in love}
{this is a must for clancey's room}
{i need a white piano too....it doesn't matter i don't play does it?}

so what are your thoughts on wall planks?
oh and if a certain prairie girl decided to take a crow bar to her walls how would she go about adding planking?? :0)
do you apply it over the dry wall or does it completely replace dry wall? has anyone attempted adding this to their house? i would *love* to hear your thoughts!

Beautiful pictures! So inspiring! I have beadboard type planking in my kitchen on one whole wall and they put it over the dry wall.

it's a must! It is a great way to add character to a home. We are going to plank our bedroom walls...at least a few of them.

Love the inspiration you gave me.

First, let me say how much I have missed visiting you...somehow I lost half my list of favorite blogs and it's taken me forever to figure out which ones they were!!! So I've been reading through what I've missed and you've been up to a lot. :)
I'm excited to see what you have in store for your blog, home and your BEing resolution.

Definately planking is a must. I think if the boards are thin enough, you can put them right over the drywall...but don't quote me. :)

Hope your holidays were wonderful and Happy New Year!

Great minds think a like. I love the planking. I have been scheming on putting it in my spare bathroom. Found a cool pic in a magazine over Christmas and fell in love. I also liked your letter B. B is for bathrooms with planking...

I love planking too! Been wanting to add some in my master bedroom.

I'd just install it right over the dryway - but that's just me - I like nice and easy projects.

Ah, dear lady, we just put some up in our front porch and I am so happy...painted it barn red...which isn't for everyone! We put it right over top the nasty kind of plastery stuff that was already on the wall...the house is old and it's not true drywall in that part of the house. It went up nice and I was super happy! :) I'd love to do a whole room in our upstairs with all the slanted ceilings,etc, my husband wants to pull the drywall down though and put new insulation in, etc, which we just did in one room and it's HUGE job! I would just go right overtop, cause you will pull your hair out pulling the drywall down...and then WHO KNOWS what you will find in your wall.

I think of you so often! You are the dearest!

What wonderful spaces.
Now you have me wanting to do this. I'm sure my hubby will thank you. L OL!
Seriously though... I wonder which room I could transform. :)
Thanks for sharing.

I l-o-v-e wall planking, however, can't offer you any info on the how-to part of things. The question I have for you dear, Kristin, is what direction are you going to run the planks? I,too, am considering installing some on the headboard wall of my guest room but can't decide to run the boards up/down or side/side. Much love, Lisa

i've sent you a couple emails replying to your comments but thought others might want to see the discussions also...
we've done bead board in our bathrooms a couple times and installed it right over the drywall which worked fabulous! we are completely remodeling our home this summer {surprise honey!} :0) and our problem is we have brick for insulation...yep brick...with some kind of plaster over the top so we will have to tear down to the bare walls in most of our rooms. i wondered if we could just use the planking instead of the added cost of drywall...i just don't know...thanks for all your input, it should be interesting! :0)

LOOOOVE it!
Thanks for the explaination. My only concern....make sure there are no drafts if you don't use drywall! You don't want it to snow in the house! :)
What color would you do? Leave it natural? Or paint it? I think I'd have to paint it white or cream.
Have fun planking!
{I learned about the other form of planking this summer during a work trip to the Wild West with high schoolers. It was interesting.}

we just used the same thing that you used on your floor...cut it into strips...painted it white and i have it on my ceilings and the wall behind my bed. you can't even tell that it isn't thick, beautiful wood! my husband just used a finish nail gun to put it up and i would think you could do that right over your sheet rock nails or not.:D

I love the textural aspect of planking on lots of things including walls. It is not something that works in my 1940's bungalow since the old plaster curved walls and ceiling are not something I would ever consider covering but if I wanted to add character and warmth to a plain old drywall area I'd go for it to be sure. Love the rooms presented here. Thanks so much!

I LOVE planks! That's why we built our cottage with them. So fun and delightful. Who needs concrete?! Give me wood anytime!!

I love that look! Yes, you can put it up over your drywall. You'll have to find the studs to nail the boards to. They make stud finders; great tool. Or you can nail up strips of wood to nail the boards to. 3 or 4 horizontally across the walls should do. Keep in mind that it will bring the walls out and that will affect the way your trim looks.

you can go right over the drywall.
Here is another great option....

I have planks covering one wall in our kitchen and LOVE it! It is raw...a perfect aged honey color. It belonged to my f-i-l. It came frome a home that he had tore down. Now i am on the lookout for more!
FYI... My dad is a contractor...he says for fire safety you should keep the sheetrock.
