The weekend.....

This past weekend we decided to go down to the desert and see how the feed and water was since about 1500 head of cattle will be down there within the next couple months......

After we check all the watering holes it was time to go pick some apples....the weather had been wonderful until we reached to orchard....
Not many orchars with that kind of view.....

We picked a couple of bushels before it started to rain....we weren't complaining, we need the rain...and it sure brought the feeling of fall...

We will be doing some drying and Studly Cowboy requested an Apple Pie!?! I just might have to call the mother-in-law on that one...hhmmm....

Changes...

Every year I vow not to miss the changing leaves on the mountain.....

Every year I miss the changing leaves....

We spent last weekend fixing our fence and checking water lines on the East End of Boulder and I found one grove of trees that had decided to start showing some colors....I made Studly Cowboy and the kids stay in the truck while I ran down hill in the rain to snap this photo....

Definitely worth it....now if I can round up the farmhouse family and convince them to dress in their best, not get dirty, take a trip on the mountain and spend the afternoon in front of a camera....

Maybe next year....sigh....

BTW, had a wonderful lady come into the shop a couple weeks ago and shock me speechless....she wanted to feature me on her blog....what?!!? little old me?!?!
She took some wonderful photos and captured some of my best farm finds....

Go pay Kelly a visit and take a look of what Prairie Whispers (next year to be Faded Prairie) has to offer.... Second Hand Chicks ......

Thank you Kelly!!

a little bit...

I love living the farm life...raising my kids under wide open skies, in the fresh mountain air, and taking care of the land their great-great-grandfather worked fills me with pride and a sense of gentler times....I hope they never forget where they came from and those that worked so hard to create a life that would carry on through the generations.....
I wanted to share a little bit about what we live everyday...enjoy....

The playhouse

For a few years now I have been harassing Studly Cowboy about building the kids a playhouse...what a sad childhood it would be not to have your own little clubhouse where you can plot against your parents....I've heard this is what children do......myself had a sad childhood where no little clubhouse was in sight.....sigh......
So this year Studly Cowboy came up with the idea to build a log cabin for the kids.....
When we were out loading logs for this little venture my job was to help Ian load them into the back of the truck....I think we only accomplished about 4 total....why? we asked are they so stinkin big!! Can't we just get those little ones?!? Yes we moaned and dragged our feet....sadly I was probably worse than the kids!! Have you ever tried to load a 10" log?
No?.....next time I'll be calling you.....
So in a nutshell I don't think any of us were very supportive and helpful to Studly Cowboy.....I would say we were down right lAzY and dOUtfUl about the whole project.....
This weekend the roof went on and I have to say I wish I would have had this when I was growing up....hell I might just move into it tomorrow....a lot less drafty that the house I'm living in now....

So Studly Cowboy THANK YOU for giving up your summer, carrying on through all the non supportive comments (that is putting it nicely....I am nice...) and giving the kids a place where many adventures (and parent plottings) will surely take place....I'm sure most of the plotting will be against yours truly....who could plot against the one who gave you THE PLAYHOUSE?!?!?
please don't ask what Clancey is doing....all I said was strike a pose.....

I'm in love.....

I feel in love last week.....
sorry studly cowboy.....You still are THE love of my life....
but, sigh.....
these come in a close second.....now if I can only find the perfect outfit....

Yes girls I did splurge....but seriously?!?! How in the world do you expect me to pass these lovers by!

Welcome fall...

I think we were about the only family that didn't do much for labor day weekend....

All the hay is in it's not quite time to turn the cattle into the next allotment....so we decided to have a little picnic to say goodbye to summer and hello fall.....

I tried a recipe from Pioneer Woman and can you say *de*li*cious*!!

Thank you Pioneer Woman for making our long weekend a little more exciting!!

I invited my mom and step dad to share in celebrating the beginning of fall.....

this a huge thing....why, you ask?.....how would you like to cook for a chef?!? A chef from Scotland no less?!?! Don't ask what possessed me....I don't think I really want to know....

Onto a less stressful, scary ordeal.....

Our oldest wanted his own set of sprinkler pipe a couple years ago and Santa very willing obliged....don't many six year-olds that have requested that....this year it is a post pounder....

This weekend happened to be his last change so I wanted to capture the event on camera....I hope he still has this enthusiasm next year or when he has to upgrade to the larger lines in the fields....I hope you are enjoying your weekend....stay tuned for new items arriving in the shops next week!!

Faded Fall Collection....

I've been busy trying to add my Faded Fall Collection to both my website and Etsy store....alot of industrial farm finds and upcycled items....these items will also be for sale in my boutique starting Labor Day weekend....I have to admit it's alittle hard to put a price tag on these finds....if I only had more room in my house many would be staying with me!!

I also had a little helper taking photos today.....

Of course she had to get all dressed up when we broke out the pumpkins and turned our thoughts toward fall....
When out feeding calves and chickens we discovered that pretty soon we will be doing some canning and making plum jam....yum! I think I'm finally ready to accept that fall is right around the corner....
