Prairie Colors....

there once was a girl who *adored* neutrals...

greys, browns, creams, and most recently warm whites...

anything stark and raw...

but her spirit is longing for some color right about now in this dismal january weather...

sky blues, golden wheat yellows, prairie grass greens...

just little rustic bits to bring {sunshine} and {cheer} into her home...

on a completely different note...

i starting shooting manual about a month ago...

i think i've starting getting the hang of it...

except indoors...ugh!!

so all you fellow photographers any suggestions?? the thing that is getting me is the right balance between a slower shutter and aperture...oh and white balance is killing me...

all i can say is {thank} goodness for photoshop!! :0)

I learned my tricks from Traci Thorson...but there is a setting on your camera for white balance. What kind of camera do you have? Mine is under settings. And on manual, I know sometimes if I shoot on shady and then turn my iso to 3200 but my f number down it helps.

I'm in love with the rusty stool and the pop of color is good for the senses.

Beautiful photos and lovely post.

your photos are always gorgeous. i love that chippy stool.

go into your white balance settings and see if you have a setting for K - kelvin. this is all based on the temperatures of light. you set the number yourself. sounds scary, but if you just play with it, you will discover what setting works best for each situation. that's all i use now.

Kristen, I think your practice makes perfect method is the best! You are doing great and I'm covetting that stool...I LOVE all your chippy stools! I'm SO VERY READY FOR SPRING! Stop by if you have a moment, I'm having a Scentsy give away!

Loving that old chippy stool! Beautiful! Another idea for photographing in low indoor light (when shooting stills) is to use a tripod. That way you can use a really slow shutter speed without having to worry about camera shake. These look great though! Happy wednesday!

Great photos! Love your texture! I'm in WY and I agree with dull gray january. I need some color other than white. (:

Darcy at my 3 boybarians did a wonderful job helping me to understand manual. Here is a link to her 31 days to a better photo series.

Let me just say manual is all about practice in all situations. It will take some time, do not get frustrated. You will get better!

Do learn how to change your white balance in your camera, use a tripod for a slower shutter speed. You will need a very slow speed for most indoor shots.

no photography advice from this little fuji camera gal (lol)

but I totally can relate to your color 'need'.....it's been grey here for awhile now - and more days to come I'm sure.....

a beautiful snowfall is happening right now, but inside is getting a big transform today.....even some dusty pink into the living room (not me at all!)

I'm feeling the need for little bits of color too. Sunshine would probably help me out though :) Your photos look so great. I love the texture.

I've been craving the colors of spring. So far I've resisted thinking by the time spring comes around I may be sick of the colors. Now I'm thinking I may add just a touch of spring.

I too am enjoying your pictures. Now if only I could find a class to take! That's the hardest part.
Oh, keep March 6 open on your calendar. Guess who will be in Des Moines, IA!!! Well, at least his website says that. But it's not listed on the venue's site yet. Oh well. Come visit!

A collection of absolute gorgeousness!!! Love the painting and the focus on of the dried flowers.
I am still in Love with my camera. I shoot in RAW and jpg all the time and have been shooting manual from the beginning.
My favorite shots are done with natural light. I am always working on trying to improve my indoor shots with low light and try to stay away from flash. I find a tripod helps greatly but practice makes perfect (as they say) and for that I am willing to keep up the work. :-) Have a great weekend ~ Rebecca
